Ded Moroz is helped by Snegurochka (Снегурочка = Snow Maiden), his granddaughter; sometimes he is accompanied by a little boy, a symbol of the "young", new year.
Ded Moroz wears a heel-length fur coat (white, blue or red), a semi-round fur hat, and valenki (валенки = felt boots), sometimes - leather boots. He has a long white beard. He walks with a long magic staff and sometimes rides a troika.
Ans some info about troika (тройка = triplet) - traditional Russian harness driving combination, where the middle horse (which is bigger) trots and the side horses canter. In the result a troika can keep a good speed (45-50 kilometres per hour = 28-31 mph) for a long distance.
